# How we help

The foundation supports a range of different initiatives and is continually reviewing further funding opportunities.

### Caring for seriously ill children and young people

Stuttgart's Olgahospital – affectionately known locally as "Olgäle" – is one of the largest children's hospitals in Germany. Every year, it treats more than 100,000 young patients as outpatients and around 14,000 as inpatients. Since 1997, the [**Olgäle-Stiftung für das kranke Kind e.V.**](https://www.olgaele-stiftung.de/) has supported the hospital by fostering a child-friendly atmosphere and funding psychosocial care, modern medical technology, and further training and research.

The KAP Stiftung supported the Olgäle-Stiftung with a grant of €15,000. As a token of gratitude, the Olgäle-Stiftung creates rings each year for the donor sculpture in the entrance area – making the KAP Stiftung's contribution visible there as well.

### Lived partnership – Jazz Open Stages

The [Jazz Open](https://www.jazzopen-stuttgart.com/line-up/open-stages) are among the most important festivals for jazz, soul, pop and crossover in Europe and turn Stuttgart’s city centre into a vibrant stage every year. This includes the admission-free Open Stages. The Gemeinschaft der Freunde Jazz Open Stuttgart e.V. (GdF) supports young musical talent in this context – in particular through the formats “Jazz for Kids” and “Jazz Open playground BW”.

The KAP Foundation supports the GdF with a grant and thereby makes diverse live music freely accessible. Energy that connects people.

### Scholarships for study trips

Together with the **[zis Foundation for Study Travel](https://www.zis-reisen.de/start)**, we enable gifted pupils to take a trip of at least four weeks off the beaten path, which the young people plan and carry out entirely on their own. Only the scholarship provided may be spent on the trip; scholarship holders must choose an individual theme for the trip, keep a journal, and submit a final report.

### Out-of-school care for disadvantaged children

We support **[Agapedia – Foundation for Children,](https://agapedia.de/)** Social Affairs and Education GmbH, founded by Jürgen Klinsmann in 1995. The foundation offers disadvantaged children in Germany between the ages of 6 and 12 out-of-school afternoon care, with activities such as sports, games, creative workshops and children's circus.

In several Eastern European countries, Agapedia also cares for abandoned children and orphans. The foundation provides them with family-based care and supports them in school and vocational training.

### Caring for severely ill children and young people

The inpatient **[Children's and Youth Hospice in Stuttgart](https://hospiz-stuttgart.de/kinder-und-jugendliche/stationaeres-kinder-und-jugendhospiz)** operates eight guest rooms of varying sizes across two floors of a beautifully and carefully renovated Art Nouveau villa high above the city. Long-term care insurance only covers the stay of the children and young people themselves.

We support the hospice in offering programs for families – including parents, siblings and the wider social environment – and also help fund recreational activities for the sick.

Furthermore, in accordance with our bylaws, we support and develop projects and musicians for a variety of reasons. ## PURPOSE OF THE FOUNDATION

### What we fund

**The foundation's central goals are to support the care of children with severe physical and psychological illness and to promote highly gifted young people.**

To this end, we want, on the one hand, to **award scholarships** to highly gifted pupils and students, doctoral candidates and post-docs both in Germany and abroad.

On the other hand, we **support** the care of severely ill and traumatized children – either directly or by supporting suitable projects at clinical institutions or children's hospices.

As part of our work, we support non-profit organizations and institutions that pursue goals consistent with our purposes.
